Recently when a friend returned from vacationing on Prince Edward Island, she suggested to us in our Book Club that we read Lucy Maude Montgomery’s “Anne of Green Gables,” the setting of which is P. E. I. I hadn’t read it and loved it.
For an on-line writing course that I’m currently taking, one assignment was to mimic the style of a book, movie or film. I hadn’t written anything in the YA (young adult) genre but decided to give this book a whirl. The story takes place in the late 1800’s. Originally written in 1908, young Anne’s character could be considered a forerunner to the precociousness of Shirley Temple in 1932 and to the entertaining personality of Pippi Longstocking in the mid-1900’s.
