Beckie O’Neill is a Malone native. After traveling the  country in the mid-70’s, she and John settled back down to raise a family on an old-50-acre farmstead in Vermontville. There, in addition to being a full-time Mom to two little boys, she rehabilitated two massive vegetable gardens and countless flower beds. Over the course of four decades she also grew one of the region’s first yoga businesses, worked for many years as a substance abuse counselor, and retired in 2016 as Director of the Saranac Lake Adult Center. She is also a published writer. Several of Beckie’s photographs have been selected by North Country Public Radio for their “Photo of the Day”, and she received “People’s Choice” Awards from both Adirondack Artists’ Guild and BluSeed Studios. “For me, photography is therapeutic. I often go for walks and try to capture with my camera lens images I find calming, unusual, or unique. I also search for textures, layers, and arresting contrasts of light.”

John has lived in and around Saranac Lake since 1973. He and Beckie raised two boys (Adam and Luke) in the suburbs of Vermontville before moving into the “Little City” in 1993. He served 25 years as Essex County Social Services Commissioner, retiring in 2017. John survived driving “the Cascades” (between Lake Placid and Keene) twice a day, 5 days a week, for 25 years, and was never bored by the daily change in colors and shadows along the way. “I’m not a photographer. I just take pictures. Don’t know nuthin’ ‘bout aperture sensitivity, ISO settings, or lens rings. Fortunately, my little point-and-shoot does know about such things, and we live in a very photogenic part of the country. So, though I can’t claim credit for the technical aspects of these photographs, I do claim credit (or blame) for snapping endless digital pics of the beauty that surrounds us. Hopefully, some turned out OK.”
